On March 11, 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The $1.9 trillion federal aid package creates new state and local coronavirus relief funds, with $220 billion going to states, tribal governments, and territories, and $130 billion going directly to municipal and county governments.
The Massachusetts Municipal Association’s analysis concludes that Massachusetts cities and towns would receive more than $2 billion in direct aid. Watertown is expected to receive $10.5 million in ARPA funding that must be encumbered by the end of 2024 and spent by the end of the 2026 calendar year.
We have set up this page as a place to view everything ARPA. The projects and programs the City can use to offset the negative health and economic impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic can include public health, economic recovery, and infrastructure improvements such as water, sewer, broadband infrastructure, and more.
As the City continues through the ARPA process, it is important to understand that the ARPA Framework may continue to evolve. We will provide updates about ARPA-related programs and activities that relate to the City of Watertown.
