Historic Preservation

The goal of our Historic Preservation efforts is to preserve, protect and develop the historical and archaeological assets of the City of Watertown. The City has a number of significant historic resources and a strong culture of preservation. In addition to the two municipal commissions listed below, there is an active Historical Society.

Historic District Commission - reviews and approves permits for all work on structures located in in the Mt. Auburn Street Historic District established by the City in 2002.

Historical Commission - administers Demolition Delay bylaw and undertakes activities to promote historic preservation in Watertown.

If you have a general preservation question or are not sure which commission you need, contact us at 617-972-6426.
