Fire Prevention Bureau

Responsibilities

The Fire Prevention Bureau has several functions. The following is a list of activities for which the Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible:

  • Enforcing Massachusetts General Law Chapter 148 and 527 CMR 1 (The Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code)
  • Review of fire alarm and sprinkler plans
  • Conducting inspections in conjunction with the Building Department
  • Issuing permits required by the fire code
  • Conducting 26F & 26F1/2 inspections with the sale or transfer of property
  • Investigating the origin and cause of fires in Watertown
  • Managing fire department details
  • Managing quarterly inspections
  • Managing oil burner inspections
  • Keeper of public records
