Mattress Recycling

Per MassDEP laws mattresses are now a waste ban item. This means they cannot be thrown away and must be recycled. Mattresses are made up almost entirely of recyclable materials, and once disassembled, more than 75 percent of mattress components can be recycled. This is a great step to help Watertown decrease the amount of material we are sending for disposal.

Residents are required to schedule their own mattresses and box springs for collection. The City does not offer collection.

The Watertown DPW recommends when you purchase a new mattress, asking the company to take away your old one for recycling as part of the delivery. Many mattress companies will do this as part of their service!
